LEWISTON, Idaho – Led by even-par rounds from Carlos Davila and Jorgen Lie Viken, the Lewis-Clark State College Men’s Golf team defeated Whitworth University 291-293 in a dual match at the Lewiston Golf & Country on Thursday.
The Warriors, ranked No. 19 in the NAIA, finished at 3-over-par to defeat Whitworth, which is ranked 19th in the NCAA Division III coaches poll. Davila and Viken both shot 72s, Devon Caruso had a 73 and Kristof Panke shot a 74 to round out the Warrior scoring.
“We are very fortunate to come out with a win,” LC coach Brady Campbell said. “To be totally honest, it was probably one of our worst rounds on our home course this year. Things that we normally do well we did not do well today. So, we are very fortunate to win against a very good team.”
Whitworth’s Sam Pauley took medalist honors with a 68.
“We shot three over, which would classify as our best round this spring but when you are playing your home course and there’s not a breath of wind and it’s 65 degrees, you want to take advantage of those conditions a little more than we did,” Campbell said.
The two schools also had B teams play and LC State’s Juan Pablo Quisoboni matched par with a 72 to lead the way.
Both the LC State Men’s and Women’s teams will be in action Monday and Tuesday at the Walla Walla University Wine Valley Invitational in Walla Walla.
