CORVALLIS, Ore. –
The following 10 CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the WVT Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during competition from March 21-27, 2022.
Softball – Pitcher
No. 1-ranked Oregon Tech’s Sarah Abramson was named the WVT Laboratory Softball Pitcher of the Week for the third time and second-straight week.
Abramson, a senior pitcher from Milwaukie, Ore., went 3-0 on the week, including a road win at No. 8 Southern Oregon University. She became the first OIT pitcher in program history (and first in the NAIA since 2018) to record back-to-back no-hitters. Abramson had a seven-inning perfect game Friday at Corban University, following with a seven-inning no-hitter Saturday. She has now won 17-straight decisions
Softball – Player
No. 8-ranked Southern Oregon University’s Cayla Williams was named the WVT Laboratory Softball Player of the Week.
Williams, a junior pitcher/infielder from San Jose, Calif., went 14-for-24 on the week to help the Raiders boast a 7-1 record. She knocked three home runs and two doubles and drove in 12 RBIs over eight games. Williams also went 2-1 in the circle with two saves and a 1.15 ERA over 24 1/3 innings. She homered in both ends of a doubleheader split against top-ranked Oregon Tech, driving in six runs on the day.
Baseball – Pitcher
Bushnell University’s Abbott Haffar was named the WVT Laboratory Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
Haffar, a senior right-handed pitcher from Simi Valley, Calif., had a perfect game into the sixth inning, retiring 17-straight batters to start the game in the Beacons’ 5-1 victory over Eastern Oregon University. His only hit allowed was a double in the seventh. Haffar finished the game with six strikeouts and no runs allowed.
Baseball – Player
No. 3-ranked Lewis-Clark State College’s Luke White was named the WVT Laboratory Baseball Player of the Week.
White, a senior first baseman from Lewiston, Idaho, had a record-setting weekend at the plate to help the Warriors sweep UBC to begin CCC play. He became the first Warriors since 1993 to hit two home runs in the same inning, and then became the first LC State player to homer in four straight at-bats. White hammered four home runs and two doubles for a 1.533 slugging percentage, tallied nine hits in 15 at-bats (.600) and knocked in 14 runs.
Women’s Outdoor Track & Field – Track Athlete
Lewis-Clark State College’s Madigan Kelly was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Kelly, a freshman from Lewiston, Idaho, did not let the ink dry on her 100-meter hurdle record and bested the mark at the Bucs Scoring and Multi on Friday. She ran an automatic-qualifying time of 14.41 seconds to win the event and punch her ticket to nationals. She also went on to finish second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.16.
Women’s Outdoor Track & Field – Field Athlete
Southern Oregon University’s Molly Guerra was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Guerra, a junior from Grants Pass, Ore., met the NAIA 'A' standard in the discus and shot to No. 2 on the national performance list Saturday at the Humboldt Invitational. Her mark of 151-7 (46.21 meters) was the second-best in SOU history and the Raiders' top throw in 22 years. Guerra also took second in the hammer throw with a toss of 44.66 meters.
Men’s Outdoor Track & Field – Track Athlete
Lewis-Clark State College’s Clayton VanDyke was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
VanDyke, a senior from Vernal, Utah, continued to dominate in the 800-meter and broke his own record in the event with a time of 1:51.13. He won the event and holds the second-fastest time in the NAIA this season. VanDyke was also a member of the 4x400m relay team that earned a victory and set a school record with a time of 3:21.70.
Men’s Outdoor Track & Field – Field Athlete
UBC’s Rowan Hamilton was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Hamilton, a sophomore from Chilliwack, B.C., Canada, threw an impressive 72.22 meters on Saturday at the UBC Open to take first place in the hammer throw. It was good for an NAIA automatic qualifying mark and gives him the top throw in the NAIA by over 10 meters.
Women’s Golf – Golfer
No. 3-ranked UBC’s Una Chou was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Golfer of the Week.
Chou, a freshman from San Diego, Calif., tied for fifth at The Paiute Battle out of 88 golfers. She carded an 80 in the first round and an 82 in the second round to finish with a 162. It helped the Thunderbirds grab a first-place team finish, their seventh-straight of the season.
Men’s Golf – Golfer
No. 16-ranked Lewis-Clark State College’s Jorgen Lie Viken was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Golfer of the Week.
Lie Viken, a junior from Kongsberg, Norway, tied for third out of 21 golfers in a LC State matchup with Whitworth University, the 19
th-ranked team in NCAA Division III. He carded a par-72 to help the Warriors beat the Pirates by two strokes.
