MEDFORD, OR – The Oregon Tech Women's Golf team finished in 1st place after an impressive first round at the Oregon Tech Spring Invite at Centennial golf course. After one of two rounds, OIT leads 2nd-place Corban by 20 strokes, with the final round starting Monday at 10:00 am.
Day 1 Results
Following the strong start to their Spring opener, Tech HC Dave Meyers said: "It is great to see 4 of our players in the top 5. Ashley finished strong going 2 under for her last 6 holes to shoot even on the back 9. Payton missed a couple of shots today that she normally makes. She is a fierce competitor and I know she will battle tomorrow. I am very pleased with how Maiya and Quincy played today. It will be fun to see if we can make a few more putts tomorrow."
Ashley Zhu, who currently sits in 1st, posted a 3-over 72 in Round 1 on Sunday. Zhu earned two birdies, which was a team-high, as Zhu paced the Lady Owls on day 1.
After Round 1, Payton Canon sits in 2nd place, as she posted a 5-over 72. Canon golfed the back nine extremely well, which allowed her to stay near the top.
Maiya Baker currently sits in 3rd, as the junior had a solid day on the course.
Quincy Beyrouty, Grace Hull, and Madison Darnold sit outside the top four, but all registered a birdie for the Owls on Sunday.
Oregon Tech returns to play tomorrow to finish the last round of the Oregon Tech Spring Invite at 10:00 am.
