EAGLE POINT, Ore. – British Columbia’s Elizabeth Labbe shot a final round 4-under-par 68 to erase a 4-stroke deficit to earn medalist honors, helping the Thunderbirds claim their second Cascade Conference Women’s Golf Championship, presented by U.S. Bank, at Eagle Point Golf Club.
Labbe (76-68 – 144) recorded birdies on four of her first seven holes, with a birdie on the par-4 sixth hole (her 15th hole of the day) providing the difference, as she topped Sonja Tang (74-71 – 145), who parred her final five holes.
UBC (298-292 – 590) dominated play to clinch the CCC title and automatic bid to the NAIA Championships, winning by 45-strokes over Oregon Tech (328-307 – 635) – who shaved 21 stokes off their opening round score. Corban (335-328 – 663) placed third, two strokes ahead of Lewis-Clark State (340-325 – 665).
OIT’s Payton Canon (77-73 – 150) shot a 1-over-par 73 to jump into a 3-way tie for third with UBC’s Grace Bell (76-74 – 150) and Corban’s Delaney Rez (74-76 – 150). Day 1 leader, Shania Remandaban (72-80 – 152), finished sixth.
Labbe was honored as CCC Player of the Year, with Tang, Canon, Remandaban, Rez, along with UBC’s Emily Li and OIT’s Ashley Zhu joining her on the All-CCC Team.
UBC head coach Chris McDonald earning Coach of the Year honors, with Corban earning the Sportsmanship Award.
