SILVIS, ILL – On the second day of the NAIA Men's Golf Championships, the UBC Thunderbirds put together another strong performance by collectively shooting +1 (285) to position themselves in fifth place heading into the final two rounds of play at TPC Deere Run.
The top 17 teams advance to the final two rounds of the championship as the field was trimmed following a competitive day under the Midwest sun. Dalton State made the largest jump into first place as they surpassed ten teams with their low-round of -11 (273), improving by 14 shots from yesterday's opening round. Ottawa University (AZ) leaped over the T-Birds into fourth place following their quality round of -6 (278).
UBC was led by Mackenzie Bickell's round of four under 67 Wednesday afternoon as he scored four of his five birdies on the front nine.
After his impressive first round, Aidan Schumer stepped back onto the course to shoot an even 71 highlighted by an important eagle on the long 546-yard par five hole number two.
Dylan Macdonald's +1 (72) round saw him score two birdies and three bogeys. Rounding out the 'Birds group was Russell Howlett's four over round of 75 and Ethan de Graaf's +11 round of 82.
The 'Birds have positioned themselves well following the first two rounds of play and will attempt gain more ground on the leader by sharpening their games over the final two days.
