UBC looking for 11th straight win at NAIA Championship

OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA - The UBC Thunderbirds women's golf team may be having their best season in program history as they bring their perfect record into the NAIA women's golf national championship hosted at Lincoln Park Golf Course in Oklahoma City, Okla. from May 24-27th.

Update: First round action of the 27th Annual Women's Golf National Championship was scheduled to commence Tuesday morning, May 24th, but inclement weather has forced the suspension of play for the second consecutive day. The format will switch to a 54-hole tournament beginning Wednesday morning, May 25th.

The T-Birds opened the 2021-22 season with five straight tournament victories beginning with Emily Li's tournament best +8 (152) at the UBC Gail Moore Intercollegiate in Bellingham, Washington. Next on the schedule was the Cascades Canada West Invitational, which saw UBC earn another victory highlighted by Una Chou's three-under two-day round.

Li and Chou shared the individual title at the LC State Warriors invitational before the T-Birds successfully defended their Canada West Championship at the Squamish Valley Golf Club. An impressive team showing watched UBC take the title by 27 strokes with five of the six best scores shot by 'Birds. Grace Bell was the only golfer to score under par after her low first round of 71 followed by a final round of even-par 72.

At the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship in Eagle Point, Oregon, the T-Birds stayed the course and continued their remarkable season to capture their 10th straight victory behind Stephanie Labbe's four-under par final round to erase Oregon Tech's lead.

Labbe was named the CCC Player of the Year with teammates Elizabeth Tang, Shania Remandaban, and Li joining her on the CCC All-Conference team.

Head Coach Chris MacDonald won the CCC Coach of the Year honour as his program has yet to leave a tournament without first-place hardware.

The T-Birds have prepared themselves well to make a run at a NAIA Golf Championship as they will attempt to extend their perfect season down in Oklahoma City.
