CORVALLIS, Ore. – After opening the new season with a solid performance at the Big Sky Challenge, Eastern Oregon University’s volleyball team was named the Under Armour Team of the Week for Aug. 13-21, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.
The 12
th-ranked Mounties begin the year with a 3-1 record, with two of their wins coming against fellow ranked foe and the one loss coming at the hands of another ranked opponent.
EOU dropped a 3-1 loss to No. 9-ranked Viterbo to start the season, but bounced back with a three-set sweep over No. 5-ranked Midland. The next day, the Mounties defeated No. 2-ranked Jamestown in four sets (3-1) and followed with another straight-set sweep over Carroll College.
As a team, EOU averaged 11.9 kills per set, led by Preslee Jensen’s 3.43 kills per set performance. The Mounties continued to have a dominant presence at the net, averaging 2.8 blocks per set, with Kara Clayton and Ashton Haughton coming up big for EOU with 13 and 11 blocks, respectively.
Next weekend, the Mountaineers head to Missouri for the Hampton Inn Classic, taking on more ranked teams when they start the tournament against No. 25 Ottawa.
