WEST PALM BEACH, Fla- The Mounties kicked off their 2022 season in the hot South Florida sun. In the opener, the Mountaineers fell 3-0 on the road to the Seahawks of Keiser University. With the loss, the Mounties will fall to 0-1 on the season.
The Mounties looked to knock off some rust in a tough first match of the 2022 season. Coming into the day, the Mounties knew they would be facing a tough opponent on the road in pre-season No. 6 Keiser University. The Seahawks were able to jump off to an early lead, striking first, in the fourth minute and late in the first half giving the Seahawks a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
As the second half proceeded the Mounties seemed to find a rhythm. Although they could not find the back of the net the Mounties looked to have settled into a groove on both the offensive and defensive side with shots coming from four different Mounties, Corynn Vigil, Brooke Ford, Darby McDevitt, and Erika Skindlov. On the defensive front, Goalkeeper Madeline Barker had an impressive seven saves on 19 shots faced, along with a stellar save on a Penalty Kick late in the second half.
The Mounties would ultimately fall 3-0 in their hot Florida season opener that touched over 90 degrees and a dreary 70% humidity. The Mounties will look to bounce back on Tuesday Aug. 23 as they take on St. Thomas University at 4 p.m PT / 7 p.m ET in Miami Gardens, Fla.
