Knights, Raiders Top 2022 CCC Men’s Soccer Preseason Poll

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Two teams share the preseason favorite title as Warner Pacific University and Southern Oregon University tied for first place on the 2022 Cascade Collegiate Conference Men’s Soccer Preseason Poll, released Thursday by the conference office.

The Knights picked up four first-place votes and 171 points on the poll after coming off a historic season. WPU grabbed a piece of the regular-season CCC championship and secured a spot in the NAIA Tournament for just the fifth time in school history. The Knights finished the year with a 15-4-2 overall and 11-1-1 CCC record.

Despite being left out of the NAIA tournament last year, the Raiders have earned some respect within the CCC and grabbed two first-place votes and 171 points to sit atop the preseason poll with WPU. SOU finished the 2021 campaign with a 15-3-1 overall mark and was the No. 3 seed in the CCC Men’s Soccer Tournament, presented by U.S. Bank, with a 10-3 conference record.

Four other teams earned first-place votes amongst the CCC men’s soccer coaches. Corban University picked up two, defending tournament champion Oregon Tech secured four, while Rocky Mountain College and the College of Idaho each picked up one.

The Warriors and Owls were separated by one point in the preseason poll, with Corban taking the No. 3 spot with 167 points and OIT following in fourth with 166 points. The Battlin’ Bears rounded out the top five with 139 points, while the Coyotes grabbed sixth with 128 points.

Eastern Oregon University and Northwest University also kept things close with the Mounties edging out the Eagles for seventh place by one point. Carroll College and The Evergreen State College filled in spots No. 9 and No. 10, while the University of Providence (No. 11), Bushnell University (No. 12), Multnomah University (No. 13), and Walla Walla University (No. 14) closed out the remaining spots on the poll.

The CCC season begins in just over a month on Sept. 16, with the conference tournament slated to start on Nov. 7, hosted by Bushnell.
