MEN'S RESULTS | WOMEN'S RESULTS

CHENEY, Wash –
Lewis-Clark State Cross Country opened the 2022 campaign with a pair of third-place finishes the Eastern Washington University's NW Clash. In the men's 6k and women's 4k, both teams finished behind NCAA Division I programs Gonzaga and EWU.

"A decently good start to the season," Head Coach Mike Collins said. "Overall, the times were slower than past years, but we had some great gapping on the men's side and some new names in the mix. We were missing a couple runners on both sides that will make a difference down the road."

THE MEN
The LC State men earned 65 points to take third overall at the meet, just nine points behind host EWU. The Warriors finished far ahead of the fourth-place team, NCAA DII Whitman, who totaled 116.

THE WOMEN
The Warrior women earned a solid third-place mark with a score of 89, besting fourth-place NCAA DIII Whitworth by 30 points.

Geraldin Correa led the way for the women with LC State's highest finish of the day in 12th (15:16.11). Brooklyn Shell rounded out the top 20 for LC in 15th (15:28.5).

Abigail Peightal checked in with a 24th-place mark (15:48.2), and freshmen Grace Tiegs and Grace Dixon placed 27th (16:09.4) and 30th (16:27.4), respectively.

Rounding out the pack for the Warriors were Clara Stephens in 32nd (16:39.7), Kelsey Henry in 38th (17:38.8) and Madison Howe in 40th (18:06.6).

"Every girl that ran this course last year improved this year, so that is definitely a positive," Collins said. "Trying to work on negative splitting in our races and this was a tough course to try to practice that on, so I am looking forward to getting to work on that."
