Castano Records Three Assists as Knights Defeat Boxers

PORTLAND, Ore.| Warner Pacific men's soccer kept up their momentum in their Friday night matchup against Pacific University, winning 6-0 over the Boxers.

Given the final score, it may be surprising to find out the game was 1-0 at the half. The Knights put constant pressure on Pacific's defense but weren't able to find the back of the net until the 23rd minute when Andrew Martinez struck off of an assist from Matias Castano.

The second half is when the floodgates opened up. Andrew Martinez kept up his prolific goal-scoring ways when he scored for the second time in the game in the 59th minute off of another Matias Castano assist.

From there, other Knights got in on the goal scoring action. Another Matias Castano assist helped Luke Wagener score his second goal of the season. Hunter Leach got his third goal of the year off of a penalty kick. Joel Gonzalez struck from a distance for his first of the year with a beautiful shot in the top right corner just over the Pacific keeper. Finally, with 30 seconds left in the game, Alain Murhula ran through multiple Pacific defenders to score his first goal of the season.

Standout performances from the night include Matias Castano who assisted the first three goals of the game and drew the penalty that allowed Hunter Leach to attempt the penalty kick that would eventually make the game 4-0. Andrew Martinez also had another great game, scoring two goals to bring his season total to seven.

The win brings the Knights' record to 4-0. Warner Pacific is back in action Sept. 10 against Cal State Maritime at 7:30 p.m. at Eastside Timbers Complex.
