Walla Walla, Wa.| Warner Pacific Men’s Soccer came out swinging as they traveled to Walla Walla to take on Whitman College, where the Knights came away with a 2-1 victory.
The scoring began early as the Knights got on the board in the 15th minute off of a penalty kick by senior Hunter Leach. Shortly after, the Knights extended their lead to 2-0 after freshman Andrew Martinez took advantage of a defensive miscue by Whitman and slipped the ball by Whitman’s keeper into the back of the net.
With their goals against Whitman, both Martinez and Leach have now scored in each of the Warner’s first two games of this young season.
Though Warner’s two goals came early into the game, it was all they would need to come out on top. Whitman was able to score late in the first half to cut the lead to 2-1. However, a solid defensive effort by Knights goalkeeper Alexis Calderilla ensured that the Knights came away victorious.
With the win, the Knights advance to 2-0-0 on the season. Their next game is the home opener on Sept. 5th against Soka University at Eastside Timbers Complex at 9:30 a.m.
