KLAMATH FALLS – Menlo (Calif.) goalkeeper Giorgia Melcore kept Southern Oregon off the board to preserve a 1-0 non-conference victory for the Oaks on Friday afternoon at Oregon Tech Soccer Field.
Paola Honde netted the lone goal in the 53rd minute, driving in a 25-yard shot into the top right corner to help the Oaks stay unbeaten at 2-0-1. Brynn McClymond was credited with the assist.
The Raiders (1-3) racked up advantages of 11-8 in shots and 4-3 in shot on goal but couldn't convert. Baylee Touey put two on target, while Sarah Mauk and Mia Santander had one SOG apiece.
SOU keeper Ashlynn Hernandez came up with two saves. The Raider attackers were held without a shot over the final 10 minutes.
The game was originally scheduled to be played at Raider Stadium. It moved to the neutral site due to unhealthy air quality in Ashland.
SOU finishes its non-conference scheduled at 11 a.m. Tuesday at UC Merced. Cascade Conference play starts on Sept. 16, when the Raiders will be in Washington to face Northwest.
