PRESCOTT, Ariz. – Playing for the first time in 10 days, the Southern Oregon men's soccer team had its way with Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) in a 4-1 win on Sunday afternoon at Varsity Field.
Four different Raiders scored goals in the non-conference affair: Sam Walker and Evan Norconk in the first half, Zak Woolley and Alan Gaytan in the second. They bumped their record to 2-1.
Walker, who logged a hat trick in SOU's season-opening victory at Life Pacific (Calif.), was first on the board in the 27th minute with a strike assisted by Gaytan and Sky Charley-Bolyard. Tybalt Thornberry assisted goals deposited by Norconk and Woolley in the 34th and 66th, and Walker was credited with an assist on Gaytan's exclamation point in the 76th.
The Eagles – who fell to 2-2-1 after receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 preseason poll – got their goal from Bryan Castellanos a few minutes into the second half to cut their deficit to 2-1.
SOU put eight of its 17 shots on target. ERAU totaled eight shots and keeper Casey Ruvolo saved two of them.
The Raiders have scored at least four goals twice in a three-game span for the first time since 2019.
They'll be on the same pitch at 1 p.m. Monday to face San Diego Christian, which enters the match with a 1-2-2 record after dropping a 3-0 decision to ERAU on Saturday.
