CORVALLIS, Ore. –
The following eight CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the Rize Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during competition from Jan. 9-15, 2023.
Men's Basketball – Player
Multnomah University's Neyland Block was named the Rize Laboratory Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
Block, a junior guard from Copperas Cove, Texas, led the Lions to another 2-0 weekend while averaging 19 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 5 assists per game. He shot a total of 16/25 on the weekend and sealed the win at Northwest with two huge free throws with six seconds left, to result in a 78-76 victory. With the help of Block's dominant ability, the Lions are now on a four-game win streak.
Women's Basketball – Player
No. 10 Lewis-Clark State College's Callie Stevens was named the Rize Laboratory Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
Stevens, a junior guard from Puyallup, Wash. had a dominant weekend with 20 points in back-to-back games. She led the Warriors in scoring in victories over Oregon Tech and No. 23 Southern Oregon to help LC State remain undefeated in Cascade Conference play. The junior shot .500 (14-for-28) from the field and .563 (9-for-16) from 3-point range. Stevens dished out 10 assists between the two games.
Men's Wrestling – Wrestler
No. 8-ranked University of Providence's Joel Avila was named the Rize Laboratory Men's Wrestler of the Week.
Avila is a 133-lb senior wrestler from Indio, Calif., is ranked No. 9 in the NAIA and has an undefeated overall and dual record. This weekend, at the Eastern Oregon Duals, the Argos competed hard in a tough matchup that did not allow any pins. Avila defeated his opponent Zach Mauras in a 6-8 decision.
Women's Wrestling – Wrestler
No. 13-ranked Eastern Oregon University's Erin Redford was named the Rize Laboratory Women's Wrestler of the Week.
Redford is a 136-lb wrestler and graduate student from Buckley, Wash. who had a tremendous weekend on the mats. Eastern Oregon University competed at the York University Duals and Open and she won first place in her weight class for both. Her results were from six matchups, where she finished racking up five falls and one 4-1 decision.
Men's Indoor Track & Field – Track Athlete
Lewis-Clark State College's London Kirk was named the Rize Laboratory Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Kirk, a sophomore sprinter from Deary, Idaho set a pair of LC State records at the Spokane Indoor Challenge on Saturday. He earned his first national-qualifying mark with a B standard in the 400m. Kirk also clocked a time of 21.99 in the 200m and 49.06 in the 400m to finish in the top 10 of each event. His 400m time is the 12th-fastest in the NAIA this season.
Men's Indoor Track & Field – Field Athlete
Lewis-Clark State College's Jaycob Atencio was named the Rize Laboratory Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Atencio, a senior thrower from Nampa, Idaho had a great weekend for the Warriors. He threw a personal-best distance of 14.98m in the weight throw to improve his spot at third in the LC record books. He placed eighth at the event and saw action in the shot put where he placed 41
st (9.39m).
Women's Indoor Track & Field – Track Athlete
Eastern Oregon University's Morgan Bayes was named the Rize Laboratory Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Bayes, a graduate student hurdler from Adrian, Ore. competed three times for the Mountaineers this weekend at the Spokane Indoor Challenge, finishing above the top 10 every time. Bayes achieved a massive accomplishment, breaking the EOU program record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.02 while hitting a "B" standard time.
Women's Indoor Track & Field – Field Athlete
Eastern Oregon University's Maggie Ledbetter was named the Rize Laboratory Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Ledbetter, a graduate student thrower from Cove, Ore. had an outstanding performance at the Spokane Indoor Challenge. She put together a strong outing, hitting a B standard and placing 7th out of 46 athletes in the women's shot put.
