CORVALLIS, Ore. –
The following seven CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the Rize Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during competition from Jan. 16-22, 2023.
Men's Basketball –Player
College of Idaho's Tyler Robinett was named the Rize Laboratory Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
Robinett, a sophomore forward from Middleton, Idaho, shot 66.7% from the field this weekend, averaging 26.5 minutes and 15 points per game. He had a career-high 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead No. 1 College of Idaho to a win over Oregon Tech. He followed that up with a near double double, scoring nine points and grabbing a season-high 10 rebounds in another victory over Southern Oregon.
Women's Basketball –Player
Eastern Oregon University's Beverly Slater was named the Rize Laboratory Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
Slater, a junior forward from Boise, Idaho, had an impressive weekend averaging a double-double while leading the Mounties to two runaway victories against Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech. The junior averaged 15.5 points, 12 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. She also set a season-high for three-pointers on Saturday going 4-6 from deep.
Men's Wrestling – Wrestler
No. 11-ranked Eastern Oregon University's Hunter Sparks was named the Rize Laboratory Men's Wrestler of the Week.
Sparks, a 125-lb Junior wrestler from Roseville, Ore. is ranked No. 24 in the NAIA and has an individual overall record of 11-3. This weekend at the prestigious Missouri Valley Open, Sparks had a stellar weekend going undefeated with a 6-0 record, defeating three wrestlers ranked above him. He capped off the weekend in the championship match with a 9-2 decision, earning a first-place finish. As a result of Sparks' great performances, he was awarded Missouri Valley Invite Outstanding Wrestler.
Men's Indoor Track & Field – Track Athlete
Lewis-Clark State College's London Kirk was named the Rize Laboratory Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week.
Kirk, a sophomore sprinter from Deary, Idaho Kirk shattered his school record in the 400m with an A standard time of 48.10. The time ranks fourth in the NAIA currently and earned Kirk a second-place finish at the meet. He tied his LC State record in the 200m with a time of 21.99 to finish fifth at the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open.
Men's Indoor Track & Field – Field Athlete
Lewis-Clark State College's Christian Bothwell was named the Rize Laboratory Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Bothwell, a senior from Hailey, Idaho finished fifth in the heptathlon with a career-best mark of 4589, the second-highest in school history. The total ranks ninth in the NAIA currently. Bothwell had personal-best marks in the long jump (6.52m) and 60m hurdles (9.07) at the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open.
Women's Indoor Track & Field – Track Athlete
Eastern Oregon University's Michelle Herbes was named the Rize Laboratory Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Herbes, a graduate student runner from Union, Ore. had an incredible weekend hitting A standards in both races she competed in. She finished first in the 1,000-meter race with a time of 2:56.45 and second in the 600-meter race with a time of 1:34.93, facing primarily NCAA Division I competition at the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open. Both times posted by Herbes ranked second all-time in Eastern Oregon's program records for their respective events.
Women's Indoor Track & Field – Field Athlete
Eastern Oregon University's Maggie Ledbetter was named the Rize Laboratory Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week.
Ledbetter, a graduate student thrower from Cove, Ore. put together another strong weekend finishing in the top five for both the weight throw and shot put against mostly NCAA Division I talent. Both of her throws were good for "B" standards (15.88m, 13.4m) at the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open and ranked in the top 10 in Eastern Oregon's program records.
