College Softball | No. 13 College of Idaho Sweeps Arizona Christian

Phoenix, Ariz. – No. 13 College of Idaho swept a doubleheader for the second-straight day to raise their record to 4-0 as they defeated Arizona Christian, 5-3 and 7-2. In game one, College of Idaho erased a 3-1 deficit to comeback to defeat the Firestorm in game one of the twinbill, 5-3. Hattie Hruza was one of three Yotes with multiple hits in the win. She hit her second HR of the young season in the seventh. The nightcap saw College of Idaho score four in the first inning on its way to a 7-2 win to complete the doubleheader sweep.
 
Game 1
The day began with the Yotes getting on the board first on an RBI single by Madelyn Powell in the third inning. Then, a three-run fourth by the Firestorm gave them a 3-1 lead but there was an answer in the College of Idaho dugout as they came back with three in the fifth to regain the lead.
 
In the inning, Powell started the inning with a double for the first of four hits by the Yotes in the frame. She would later to come around to score on a RBI single by Tanner Higgins. Alert base running by Higgins tied the game at three as she moved around the bases on a passed by the Firestorm and a wild pitch to tie the game at 3. Later in the inning, Hattie Hruza singled and would come around to score on a triple by Lexi Navarrete to put the visitors back ahead by a 4-3 margin. Hruza would add to the Yotes lead with a solo home run in the seventh.
 
In the win, four different Yotes – Powell, Higgins, Hruza and Kaily Christensen each had two hits to lead an 11-hit attack. In the circle, Hannah McNerney picked up her second win of the young season, allowing six hits and striking out three.
 
Game 2
Powell had her second-straight multi-hit game and Navarrete had two hits as College of Idaho had seven hits from five-different players in a 7-2 win in the nightcap. Powell, Hruza and Higgins each had two RBIs. Katelyn Wilfert pitched her second-straight complete game, allowing seven hits and striking out five for her second win.
 
College of Idaho struck first with a four-run first inning – two of which came in on a two-run home run by Higgins. The Yotes added to their lead with a two-RBI single by Hruza and an RBI triple by Powell in the fifth put College of Idaho ahead 7-0. The Firestorm plated a run each in the sixth and seventh for the final margin.
 
The Yotes will wrap up the weekend trip to Arizona with a doubleheader on Sunday against Benedictine in Mesa. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
