"Our men had another strong race today," Warriors' head coach Todd Bos stated earlier today. "This race was an important one for the program, as six other Cascade Collegiate Conference teams were present. We managed to beat one of the teams ranked ahead of us in the national rankings and finished right behind another. We are headed in the right direction and should continue to stay hungry as a team."
Coach Bos carried on regarding the men's team by sharing, "Our top five men set a new team record by averaging 25:30 per runner, and Rob ran the fastest 8k time by a Corban student-athlete ever. We believe he can run an even better second half of the season as we approach the last opportunity to prove ourselves prior to the conference meet. All in all, the team is working hard, listening to Coach Stuart Eagon's instructions, and growing stronger as a team. We will continue to pray that we run for God's glory and not our own."
As previously stated by Coach Bos, graduate student Robert Swoboda clocked in a new school time for the men's 8k, as he ran a 24:18.1 to finish in fifht place overall at Bush Park this morning to best the previous record by nearly twenty seconds set by Nathan May back in 2005. Swoboda was the highest NAIA placer today as he continues to improve his mark as the season progresses as he vies for a top placement spot at the upcoming Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Championships in November.
Freshman Jack Gladfelter was the next Warrior to cross the finish line for Corban, logging a 25:05.8 to finish 19th overall. Sophomore Zander Moha (25:34.5) earned a 52nd place finish, followed by Forrest Cooley (26:08.3) and Brayden Lee (26:21.7) in 74th and 80th, respectively, to close out the top five finishes for the Warrior men's squad.
"Just like the men's team, the women ran very well today," Coach Bos said regarding his women's team. "Both Samantha and Judah ran 5k personal records, while Abby Scott and Rebecca were significantly faster today than their high school personal records. Coach Stuart and I are extremely proud of how hard the ladies are working as a team. This group is continuing the excellent Christian culture established by prior team members and they are a joy to work with."
Junior Samantha Dara was the top overall placer for the Navy and Gold in the ladies' race, finishing in 87th place with a 19:40.1 final time. Junior Judah Koehler (19:58.9) raced to a 116th place finish, followed by freshman Abigail Scott (21:16.2) in 160th, redshirt sophomore Anne Morud (21:36.2) in 168th, and freshman Rebecca Noordham (21:57.1) roduning out the Corban squad in 175th.
The Corban cross country teams are back in action two weeks today at the George Oja Linfield Invitational, which will take place back at the Oak Knoll Golf Course on October 14th, a location the Warriors are more than familiar with as they enter their last regular season race before the CCC Championships at the beginning of November.
