CORVALLIS, Ore. – After two straight home sweeps this weekend, the College of Idaho Volleyball team was named the Under Armour Team of the Week for Oct. 9 – 15, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.
College of Idaho (13-10, 11-4 CCC) is currently fourth in the CCC standings behind three nationally ranked teams, who are their only conference losses this season. The Yotes are second in the CCC in digs (16.69 avg/s) and third in assists (12.29 avg/s).
The first Yote victory was on Friday against (RV) Northwest University. The Eagles were previously ahead in the conference standings. It was the second time C of I defeated Northwest this season, but this match-up completed a lot quicker. In the three-set sweep (25-9, 26-24, 25-16), College of Idaho was led by Haley McUne offensively, who recorded 10 of the Yotes 40 total kills. The Eagles only had 25 kills. C of I also collected 10 blocks, 37 assists, and 54 digs in the game. Northwest only reached a .019 attack percentage.
The next day, College of Idaho bested The Evergreen State College in three straight sets (25-15, 25-12, 25-14) for the second time this season. The squad reached an impressive .342 attack percentage as a team. Clair Hodge led the Yotes defensively with 18 of their 63 total digs. C of I also recorded 49 kills, 45 assists, and seven blocks in the win while holding the Geoducks to a .071 attack percentage.
The weekend victories have secured the Yotes a spot in the CCC conference tournament. Up next, College of Idaho has a tough weekday match-up against No. 3 Eastern Oregon University on Tuesday. C of I have seven regular season matches remaining.
