Menlo Wrestler Robert Lopez Earns Flyweight Championship

VISALIA, Calif., – Menlo College's Men's Wrestling freshman Robert Lopez competed in the 559 Fights 100 MMA event on Saturday, September 16 held at the Visalia Convention Center. Lopez fought in the Flyweight Championships against Javier Torres, the defending title holder. In an action-filled fight, Robert secured an armbar in the third round, earning the submission to become the new Flyweight Champion! 

Lopez Offered Professional MMA Contract

At the culmination of his title victory, Robert was offered a multiple-fight contract by former UFC star, Urijah Faber's A1 Combat Professional MMA agency. Lopez remains undefeated as an amateur MMA fighter going 5-0 in 2023. He has totaled 3 knockouts and 2 submissions. Prior to arriving at Menlo, Lopez trained at Castro MMA under Julio Castro in Tracy, California. This will be his first year as an Oak and Menlo is looking forward to seeing what he is capable of doing on the mat!
