EUGENE, Ore.
– College of Idaho was crowned the 2023 Cascade Collegiate Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament Champions today at Civic Park in Eugene, Oregon.

The #1 seed College of Idaho (18-1-2, 12-0 CCC) worked its way through the CCC Tournament, presented by U.S. Bank, to face the #5 seed Northwest University (11-6-2, 7-3-2). It was a repeat of last year’s championship with a much different outcome.

After shutting out Bushnell University (2-0) in the Quarterfinals and defeating Southern Oregon University (3-1) in the Semifinals, the Yotes were determined to clinch its first tournament title in program history.

The only thing in their way was the defending champions of Northwest University, which continued into the tournament with 1-0 shutouts over Corban University and Eastern Oregon University.

Freshman Abbi Roubidoux scored in the first half for the Yotes, coming off assists from Deborah Pond and Alondra Osuna. The game would remain 1-0 heading into the halftime break. With just 12 minutes left, Northwest's Talia Hurst connected with Laura Rice who scored the game tying goal in the 77th minute.

College of Idaho had 26 total shots compared to Northwest’s nine. Both teams made five on target. The battle was stilled 1-1 at the end of the two periods of extra time, resulting in a penalty shootout to decide the winner.

Grad student goalkeeper Hannah McFadden stepped up to the challenge, proving why she was named the CCC Rize Laboratory Defensive Player of the Year. Through the Eagle's four shootout attempts, not one was able to pass McFadden. On offense, Payton Mongelli got the Yotes on the board in the second attempt, while freshman Alondra Osuna added one to seal a C of I 2-0 PK tournament victory.

"I Couldn't be more proud and honored to work with such an amazing group of young women," said head coach Brian Smith, "We had massive goals this year and thus far have achieved every one of them. To go undefeated in the regular season and win the conference title is a historic moment for our program."

The game officially ended in a draw with College of Idaho advancing as Tournament Champions. Both teams earned the CCC’s Automatic Qualifiers to the NAIA National Tournament. They will find out their opponents when the NAIA announces official qualifiers on Monday (NAIA YouTube Channel), with the first and second round set to begin later next week.
