Godwin Hits New Career-High in Scoring, Battlin’ Bears Take Finale of Northwest Classic

KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Corban University Women's Basketball team was unable to handle their NAIA Top 25 opponent this afternoon at Kristi Brodin Pavilion, as No. 14-ranked Rocky Mountain College turned in an 84-67 victory over the Warriors in the final matchup of the Northwest Classic.

"That second half was the team we want to be, and we proved we can go toe to toe with a ranked team," Warriors' head coach Bill Pigleram stated. "Unfortunately, Rocky was able to expose some weaknesses in the first half and put us in a hole. We will continue to improve as we set our eyes on the conference season starting in a few weeks."

Turnovers once again plagued the Warriors (-) in Kirkland, which was especially demoralizing when playing against the Top 15-ranked Battlin' Bears (-). Rocky Mountain took advantage early and made Corban pay for it on the offensive end of the court, connecting on 62% of their field goals in the first half to take a lengthy 17-point lead into the halftime break.

Senior guard Maddie Godwin was the most electrifying player offensively for the Navy and Gold through the opening half, scoring 15 points on 6-for-10 field goal shooting. Junior forward Madison Hodnett was right behind her after 20 minutes of play with seven points following the best scoring performance of her career.

The defensive grief continued throughout the second half for the Warriors, who managed to score over 60 points for the game but gave up over 80 points for the second-consecutive day. Their opponents at the Northwest Classic scored on over half of their attempts to put Corban into early deficits, which proved cumbersome as the Warriors had to play catchup for the entire weekend.

Corban was led offensively by Godwin and a game-high 26 points, her new career-high best mark as a member of the Navy and Gold by splashing eleven shots against RMC. Hodnett continued to find success in the paint for the Warriors with 16 points and seven rebounds. Freshmen guards Lizzy Bennett and Autumn Agnew added seven points apiece.

Battlin' Bear guard Iliana Moran and forward Morgan Baird each scored over 20 points and combined for 47 points, scoring over half of Rocky Mountain's total points on the afternoon. Forward Dominique Stephens secured the only double-double of the day for either team, scoring 15 points and hauling in 13 rebounds.

The Warriors will keep the road trip alive next week as they'll play their lone exhibition matchup of the season in Cheney, Washington against NCAA DI Eastern Oregon University (2-1), with tipoff scheduled for 6pm on Thursday, November 16th.
