CORVALLIS, Ore. – After an outstanding weekend on the mat, the No. 12-ranked Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Men's Wrestling team was named the Under Armour Team of the Week for Dec. 11 – 17, the CCC announced Sunday.
On Friday, Embry-Riddle recorded two big dual wins at the Tournament of Champions, held at the Reno Events Center. The team began the tournament defeating (RV) Wayland Baptist University by a final of 34-14, resulting in head coach KC Rock's 100th dual victory. Adam Stanley won with a 17-4 major decision at 141lbs. Jonah Chew was victorious in his match at 149lbs to earn a tech fall (17-0) for the Eagles. Sheldon Cole (165lbs) and Keller Rock (174lbs) both won by falls in their matches as well. In the 184lb weight class, Daniil Gorshkov won by major decision (12-2) and Corbin Hayes picked up the final victory at 285lbs with a 11-4 decision.
ERAU then took on (RV) St. Ambrose University in their second dual of the day. Allan Hendricks kicked off with a 5-0 win at 125lbs for the Eagles, followed by Chew's second straight tech fall. The team got three wins in a row as Peyton Proper (157lbs), Cole, and Rock all won by falls in their respective weight classes. Gorshkov closed out for Embry-Riddle again with his second major decision of the day (11-3). The Eagles defeated the Bees with a final score of 34-12.
On Sunday at the Reno Tournament of Champions, Embry-Riddle placed T-11, finishing as the highest CCC team while competing against several strong NCAA opponents. Rock led the Eagles with a 6th place finish at 165lbs. He came back from his first loss with a tech fall (15-0), a 4-2 decision, then added two more falls to reach the 5th place bout. Chew won his first match in the consolation bracket and went on to win five more, making it all the way to the consolation round of four. In the 141lbs consolation bracket, all three ERAU wrestlers won one match before their days ended in the round of eight.
Next up, the Embry-Riddle men's wrestling team will host Arizona Christian University for a dual on December 30th.
