CORVALLIS, Ore. – No. 7 Menlo College men’s wrestling team was named the Under Armour Team of the Week for Feb. 13-19, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.
On Friday, the team began its mission to take home the CCC 2023 men’s wrestling champion title in Prescott Arizona. After day one, the Oaks lead with a team score of 72.5 points.
On Saturday the Championship matchups began. At 133 pounds, Menlo teammates Abdullaev and Jovan Garcia had a thrilling match, with Abdullaev coming out on top in a 6-4 decision. Abraham Del Toro scored a takedown in the first overtime period at 157 pounds, defeating Providence’s Aden Graves in a 3-1 final.
Menlo was crowned the Champions with 153 team points. It is their third title in the last five Conference Tournaments. Gulomjon Abdullaev was named outstanding wrestler of the tournament while Joey Martinez was named coach of the year. The season ended on a high night for the Oaks and nine wrestlers have earned automatic qualifiers to continue competing at the NAIA Championships.
