CCC Women’s Basketball Championship Preview

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The tie will finally be broken to determine the 2022-23 Cascade Collegiate Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament Champion, presented by U.S. Bank. Top-seeded Eastern Oregon University hosts second-seeded Lewis-Clark State College for the trophy at 5:30 p.m. (PST).

After going through all the guideline tiebreakers because of identical records, the co-regular season championship teams' seeding placement was down to a coin flip. Winning the flip, Lewis-Clark State College got the first automatic qualifier to nationals and the second seed in the conference tournament. Eastern Oregon received the number one seed and has secured the second AQ with their post-season performance.

EOU opened the tournament by dominating over eighth-seeded Evergreen State College. The Mountaineers came out with an 87-49 victory to advance to the semifinals. Eastern shot 58.6% as a team and was led by Sailor Liefke with 18 points, 7-7 field goals, and 3-3 three-pointers.
 
In the semifinals, the Mountaineers secured their championship ticket with an 83-68 victory over Oregon Tech. The Owls put up a strong fight in the first half and both teams turned the ball over 12 times. Once the second half hit, it was clear Eastern was ready to perform. Beverly Slater led the way for EOU with an impressive 20 points and 14 points.
 
LCSC blew past seventh-seeded Corban University in the quarterfinals with a score of 91-48. Maddie Holm who put together a strong game with 20 points on a 7-for-12 night from the floor. LC State shot 50% from the field and every bench player contributed to the win.
 
The Warriors took down third-seeded Southern Oregon University with a 80-69 score. Back-to-back baskets by Holm and Ellie Sander opened the contest, and a jumper by Stevens sparked a run. Maddie Holm and Callie Stevens led LC State with 16 points each, and Holm’s night included 11 rebounds for a double-double.
 
The final two teams split in the regular season, LCSC defeated EOU in a tight 71-69 game at the end of December in Idaho. EOU answered back with an overtime 85-79 win in Oregon at the end of January.
