CORVALLIS, Ore. –
The following twelve CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the Rize Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during competition from Jan. 30 – Feb. 5, 2023.
Men’s Basketball – Player
No. 1 College of Idaho’s Jake O'Neil was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
O'Neil, a sophomore forward from Fruitland, Idaho, had a pair of double-doubles as College of Idaho defeated Warner Pacific (88-42) and Multnomah (118-64), over the weekend. He scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to go along with three assists in the win over the Knights. He followed that up with a 21-point, 10-rebound effort against the Lions.
Women’s Basketball – Player
College of Idaho’s Lexi Mitchell was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Mitchell, a senior guard from Middleton, Idaho, averaged 13 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists a game in the Coyotes two wins over Warner Pacific (79-67) and Multnomah (77-65). She had a double-double against Warner Pacific (10 points and 10 rebounds)m to go along with five assists. Mitchell became the program's all-time leader in rebounds with seven boards against Multnomah to go along with 16 points and three assists.
Men’s Wrestling – Wrestler
(RV) Southern Oregon University’s Alex Hernandez was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Wrestler of the Week.
Hernandez, a 174-lb Redshirt Freshman wrestler from San Diego, Calif., is ranked No. 19 in the NAIA and has an individual overall record of 20-6. He competed in a week full of duals, beginning with an upset over No. 10 Keegan Mulhill of Eastern Oregon University on Wednesday. He then finished his weekend by taking another victory from Gage Mettler of San Francisco State and a pin against Austin Mattson of Corban University.
Women’s Wrestling – Wrestler
No. 3 Southern Oregon University’s Esthela Trevino was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Wrestler of the Week.
Trevino, a 101-lb senior wrestler from Houston, Texas, is ranked No. 3 in the NAIA and has helped lead her team to an undefeated season. This weekend at the Grand View Open, she scored three consecutive technical falls, defeating Menlo (Calif.)'s Angelique Cervantes, Northern Michigan's Trinity Valentin, and Life (Ga.)'s No. 16 Devyn Gomez, all by way of shutouts. In Trevino's final match-up, she took down No. 2 Erin Hikiji of Providence (Mont.) by a 10-6 decision and received the championship title in her weight class.
Men’s Indoor Track & Field – Track Athlete
College of Idaho’s Lane Maher was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Maher, a junior runner from Pendleton, Ore., finished first in the 60m hurdles with an 8.41 time at the EOU Lew Thorne Invite. In the prelims, he reached a time of 8.30, posting an NAIA "B" qualifying mark.
Men’s Indoor Track & Field – Field Athlete
Eastern Oregon University’s Tyler Jones was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Jones, a sophomore jumper from Richland, Wash., finished first in the high jump with a mark of 2.02m, reaching a “B” standard at the EOU Lew Thorne Invite. He also finished second in the triple jump with a 12.79m mark.
Women’s Indoor Track & Field – Track Athlete
Lewis-Clark State College’s Madigan Kelly was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Kelly, a sophomore runner from Lewiston, Idaho, hit the “A” standard in the 60m hurdles with times of 8.76 in the prelim and 8.83 in the final, winning both events at the EOU Lew Thorne Invite. She also tied her school-record time in the 60m dash while finishing second in the prelim (7.90) and third in the final (7.93).
Women’s Indoor Track & Field – Field Athlete
Lewis-Clark State College’s Sydnie Zywina was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Zywina, a sophomore jumper from Orofino, Idaho, destroyed the LC State record in the triple jump and punched her ticket to nationals with an “A” standard of 11.63m. She won the event at the EOU Lew Thorne Invite by nearly a meter and is currently ranked 10th in the NAIA.
Baseball – Player
No. 2 Lewis-Clark State College’s Nick Seamons was named the Rize Laboratory Baseball Player of the Week.
Seamons, a junior outfielder from San Diego, Calif., had a standout first weekend against some of the toughest competition in the NAIA. He hit three home runs in four games for a 1.000 slugging percentage. He tallied seven hits for a .389 batting average and drove in seven runs. Adding to his excellent weekend, Seamons had a perfect weekend in the field.
Baseball – Pitcher
No. 2 Lewis-Clark State College’s Trevin Hope was named the Rize Laboratory Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
Hope, a sophomore pitcher from Lynden, Wash., was dominant in his first start as a Warrior. The sophomore helped put together a combined shutout of No. 4 LSU Shreveport in the season opener. He earned the win after going six scoreless innings with five strikeouts.
Softball – Player
No. 19 Eastern Oregon University’s Hannah Tyree was named the Rize Laboratory Softball Player of the Week.
Tyree, a sophomore from Federal Way, Wash., powered the Mountaineers through an undefeated weekend opener. She crushed two home runs, recording a 1.167 slugging percentage, a .417 batting average, and rallied in 11 RBIs. Defensively, Tyree was errorless while catching and playing third base.
Softball – Pitcher
No. 19 Eastern Oregon University’s Kaylie Hoskins was named the Rize Laboratory Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Hoskins, a sophomore pitcher from Lake Stevens, Wash., had an incredible weekend, throwing two no-hitters in back-to-back appearances to open the season for the Mountaineers. She notched 11 strikeouts in her first start followed by a program record of 17 in the second game.
