Tennant Lifts Beacons to First Victory

REDDING, Calif. – The Bushnell softball team earned a road split on Tuesday against Simpson University, falling 3-0 in the opener before claiming a 9-2 victory in the night cap.  
 
GAME ONE: Simpson 3, Bushnell 0
 
The teams combined for 19 strikeouts in a pitcher’s duel to open the day. For the Beacons, Sam Silver (0-2) pitched a gem as she struck out six batters in five innings and didn’t allow a ball to reach the outfield until the fatal fifth inning in which the Red Hawks scored all of their runs. Liz Hillier added two more strikeouts of her own in the final inning, and did not relinquish a hit.
 
Bushnell struck out 11 times and was able to garner three hits on offense, including two from Faith Wayman.
 
GAME TWO: Bushnell 9, Simpson 2
 
The bats came alive in game two for the Beacons as they collected 12 hits including four that went for extra bases. Trailing 2-0 in the top of the fourth, Hannah Tennant got Bushnell on the board with a two-run home run, deep over the left field fence.
 
The Beacons manufactured three more runs in the fifth and added four more in the sixth.
 
Tennant finished the game hitting 3-for-4 with four RBI. Madison Steelman posted a single, double, and triple to go 3-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in, and Suzi Krstic added a pair of singles and scored three runs.
 
The pitch staff combined for a four-hitter, allowing two unearned runs. Starter Jada Young gave up one on two hits while striking out two batters in the first two innings. Senior Leslie Reynaga (1-0) pitched five innings in relief giving up two hits while striking out six.

The Beacons (1-3) close out their road-trip on Wednesday, taking on No. 21 Jessup University (4-0) beginning at 1:00 pm.
