CCC Women’s Basketball Postseason Awards

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The 2022-23 Cascade Collegiate Conference Women’s Basketball postseason awards were announced Wednesday by the conference office.

Rize Laboratory Player of the Year Callie Stevens led the Lewis-Clark State Warriors to a co-regular season championship. It is the second consecutive year Stevens is earning this award. The junior guard was fifth in the conference in scoring with a total of 330 baskets, averaging 15 points a game. The Puyallup, Wash., native was third in the conference in assists and made 3-point field goals, averaging 3.5 and 2.5 respectively. She also made 46 of her 57 free throws.
 
Newcomer of the Year Bayley Brennan ­­transferred to Eastern Oregon University from Seattle Pacific University and immediately made an impact for the Mountaineers. The junior guard from Post Falls, Idaho, is second in the conference in 3-pointers with a total of 51 on the season. She also was in the top 30 scorers of the conference.
 
Co-Defensive Player of the Year ­– Shaelie Burgess anchored a balanced defensive attack for Eastern Oregon. The junior forward had 44 total blocked shots, good for second in the conference. The Honolulu, Hawaii, native also averaged 7.1 rebounds a game.
Co-Defensive Player of the Year ­– Melissa Lee led Oregon Tech to a fourth-place finish in the conference. The senior forward from Napavine, Wash., had a total of 165 rebounds, which was third-best in the conference. She was fourth in the conference in steals and blocked shots, averaging 2.1 and 1.8 a game, respectively.
 
Freshman of the Year Sitara Byrd jumped right in with Lewis-Clark State College in her first year of play. She had a 45.5 field goal percentage and a 54.5 free-throw percentage. The Spokane, Wash., native had a total of 158 rebounds and 43 steals, making her an all-around dominant piece to the Warrior lineup.
 
Coach of the Year – Eastern Oregon University’s Anji Weissenfluh, in her 22nd season, led the Mountaineers to a co-regular season title as well as a tournament championship title. Her team is currently on a 19-game winning streak, and this is Weissenfluh’s eighth time being named Coach of the Year.
