Mounties Battle Tough Weather at Pac U Multi Meet

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University’s multi athletes battled some difficult weather over the two-day Pac U Multi Meet hosted by Pacific University. After getting off to a solid first day, EOU ran into some challenges on day two with colder weather. Despite some obstacles, EOU had several athletes move into the top-10 all-time marks for the heptathlon and several individual events.

EOU will return to action next Friday at the Whitworth Peace Meet in Spokane, Washington

WOMEN
Eastern had two women move into the top-10 in the heptathlon in Elizabeth Grandle and Sammy Conley who now sit No. 7 and 8 all-time in the EOU record books for the event. The pair finished in third and fourth respectively. Karli Bedard, the Mountaineers’ third competitor also finished in the top-10 of the meet taking ninth. With scores of 4,180, 4,119, and 3,984 the trio all posted “B” Standard Marks.

Grandle continues to have an outstanding freshman year as she led the Mounties in the first outdoor heptathlon competition of the outdoor season. The Molalla native finished third overall recording second place finishes in three different events (high jump, shot put, and javelin). Grandle’s performances in the long jump and high jump also rank in the top-20 in program history for both events.

Conley was the only Mountie to win an individual event in the heptathlon taking the top spot in the javelin. The sophomore finished with a throw two meters further than the next competitor (36.75 meters).

MEN
After getting out to a solid start on day one, Eastern’s men hit some bumps on day two of the meet. EOU had three men competing in the decathlon in Judson Mansfield, Israel Miles and Justin Lazenby. Mansfield was the Mounties’ highest placer taking sixth in a field of 13 with a score of 5,462 points. Miles finished in ninth with a score of 5,241, while Lazenby finished in 11th with a score of 4,957.

Mansfield was the most consistent across the board with three top-five finishes in the high jump, pole vault, shot put, and javelin.

Miles and Lazenby were the only two Mounties to win an individual event as Miles finished in first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.46 seconds and Lazenby won the high jump clearing 1.91 meters.
