CRESWELL, Ore. – The University of British Columbia wins the 2023 Cascade Collegiate Conference Women’s Golf Championship, presented by U.S. Bank, while Thunderbirds’ Sonja Tang takes home individual medalist honors.
The Thunderbirds, the top-ranked team in the NAIA, carded a 289 as a team in the third round to finish with a 65-stroke victory (291-301-289—881). Lewis-Clark State College, who is receiving votes in the latest poll, took second place, finishing with a 316-312-318—946 team score.
Oregon Tech (331-334-323—988) took third, while Corban University (365-352-366—1083) finished fourth. Southern Oregon (366-372-363—1101) placed fifth and Walla Walla (402-374-374—1150) was sixth.
UBC made up the top four spots in the individual standings. Sonja Tang (72-73-70—215) earned individual medalist honors, moving up a spot on the leaderboard after carding a 70, the lowest round of the day. Jessica NG (70-74-75—219) placed second, Grace Bell (73-75-73—221) took third and Elizabeth Labbe (79-79-72—230) was fourth.
Deana Caruso (76-79-79—234) of LC State placed fifth as all five Warriors finished among the top 11.
UBC also won the CCC regular-season title with a record of 11-0. Corban University was honored as the Team Sportsmanship Award winner while Keri Moffat from UBC was named the Cascade Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year.
The All-Cascade Collegiate Conference Team was also named, with the top-ten finishers in order of stroke average being selected. Golfers must have played in a minimum of six rounds to be eligible.
