VANCOUVER – The UBC Thunderbirds find themselves in the middle of the pack through one full round of the 2023 Men's NAIA Golf Championships. Monday afternoon in Mesa, AZ the 'Birds fired a combined 292 for a +4 finish and sit
11 shots back of the leaders from Keiser University (282, -6).

Chris Macdonald's club had an early start to Day 1 as their five participants teed off between 7:50 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. PT. Individually the 'Birds were led by the tandem of Aidan Schumer and Hudson LaFayette, both of whom fired even par rounds of 72 during Day 1 and sit four shots back of Jakob Stavang Stubhaug (Keiser), Robin Conlan (Victoria) and Callum Waugh (Lindsey Wilson).
Dylan MacDonald was next for UBC with a +1 round of 73 while John Paul Kahlert rounded out the top four with a +3 score of 75. The fifth-ranked player of the day for UBC was Mackenzie Bickell who finished +6 (78).
Schumer and LaFayette each carded three birdies apiece along with three bogeys. Dylan MacDonald led all UBC performers with four birdies, but his round also included three bogeys and one double. John Paul Kahlert grabbed his third birdie of the day on hole 18 to complete his round, giving the 'Birds 13 combined birdies on the day.
