Stubbs Concludes Beacon Career

MESA, Ariz. – Caden Stubbs recorded a 10-stroke improvement in the second round of the 2023 NAIA Men's Golf Championship, hosted at the Las Sendas Golf Club, to conclude his Bushnell career.

The championship is a four-round stroke play tournament consisting of 155-players: 29 teams and 11 individual qualifiers. The tournament field is cut after 36 holes with 17 teams and 40 individuals, including ties, advancing to the final two rounds.

Stubbs earned an automatic qualifier to the national championship by winning the Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament in late April. The senior entered the tournament with a 73.0 stroke average on the season.

He carded a score of 84-74—158 (+14) through 36 holes to tie for 111th. After posting an 84 in the first round, Stubbs rebounded with a 74 (+2) in round two. He played 25 holes today as the remainder of the first round was postponed due to lightning strikes in the area.

Director of Golf Larry Watts said, "What a great experience Cade had at the National Championship. The second round was indicative of this champion's talents and hard work. The first round was a result of not getting comfortable. He learned a lot about desert golf and playing on different grasses. It has been a pleasure working with Cade and his contributions to the program will be felt for years."

The University of British Columbia, also representing the CCC, is in second in the team standings. Jorgen Viken (75-72—147) of Lewis-Clark State College, made the cut, and is tied for 29th in the individual standings through two rounds of play.
