BUTTE, Mont. – Evergreen women's volleyball opened their season at the Big Sky Challenge with a double header against Montana State University Northern and Montana Tech. The Geoducks fell in straight sets, 0-3, to both opponents.
Evergreen (0-2) opened their season against the Skylights (1-0) and were bested in straight sets (25-14, 25-13, 25-17). Montana State Northern opened the match with a 15-3 run and rode that momentum throughout the contest.
Andee Nelson led the offense for the Geoducks with five kills. Jenna Glenzel was the assist leader with 12. Rylee Grams had the team-high in digs with 12 and Kaiyah Brown led the match in blocks with four.
In the second match of the day for Evergreen, the Orediggers (1-0) won in straight sets (25-17, 25-18, 25-11). The Geoducks had comeback efforts late in the first two sets that showed promise but fell short.
Andee Nelson duplicated her first game performance with another five kills. Lucendy Perez held the sole ace for Evergreen and Jessica Mitchell led the team in assists with nine. Mitchell and Rylee Grams tied for the team lead in digs with seven each.
The Geoducks will be back at it bright and early tomorrow morning with another double header for day two of the Big Sky Challenge with a match against University of Providence at 8 am followed by another match against Arizona Christian at 4 pm.
