Under Armour Team of the Week Announced

CORVALLIS, Ore. – After an undefeated season opener, Southern Oregon University Women’s Soccer was named the Under Armour Team of the Week for Aug. 21 – 27, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.

SOU came into the new season ranked 2nd in the CCC and received votes in the NAIA preseason polls. They began their journey last Sunday and ended the week with three wins, while not allowing a single goal.

The first match-up was against Simpson University. Seven minutes into her first collegiate shift, freshman Iniana Hammond made the game-deciding goal to secure a 1-0 victory for the Raiders. SOU keeper Ashlynn Hernandez kept Simpson off the board with four saves.

The next win was over Jessup University. Senior Malaika Quigley registered the first two-goal game of her career, freshman Hammond tallied her second of the season, and freshman Brooklyn Hayes got on the board for the first time in the neutral-site matchup to complete the 4-0 defeat. Hernandez, the goalkeeper, recorded an impressive six saves.

The dominant weekend for SOU ended with an upset over No. 9-ranked Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Freshman Kaylah Bresee's first career goal and goalkeeper Hernandez's 16th shutout and career-high nine saves helped the Raiders make the Eagles their highest-ranked victims in 22 years with a 1-0 victory.

The Raiders continue non-conference play next week in Southern California, visiting Hope International on Aug. 30 and Vanguard on Sept. 1.
