Cascade Connects: Volleyball Preview

CORVALLIS, Ore. – One match already set off the 2023 Cascade Collegiate Conference volleyball season but on Friday and Saturday, the schedule is in full swing as all 12 teams will compete. This marks the start of the battle to determine who will win the regular-season title and the first CCC automatic qualifier (AQ). This year, the conference has expanded post-season play, allowing the top eight teams in the final standings to advance in the CCC Volleyball Championship Tournament presented by U.S. Bank, with the CCC’s second AQ at stake.

No. 5 Corban University vs. Warner Pacific University
Corban was chosen as the CCC preseason favorite and just had student-athlete Rylee Troutman named NAIA attacker of the week. However, with a hefty preseason schedule against top-ranked teams, the Warriors enter the conference season with a 6-2 record and went to No. 5 in the first NAIA coaches poll of the season. Warner Pacific University is looking for a turnaround as the Knights go into the year with a 0-7 record.

No. 1 Eastern Oregon University vs. Oregon Tech
After taking five first-place votes and landing one point behind in the CCC preseason poll, Eastern Oregon began its campaign with something to prove. After having a stellar preseason, the Mountaineers head into conference play undefeated, with a 7-0 record and ranked at the top of the NAIA coaches poll. Oregon Tech is looking for an upset as the Owls start conference play with a 2-5 record.

No. 19 Southern Oregon University vs. College of Idaho
With an impressive start to the season, Southern Oregon has already managed to move its way up to a top 20 ranking in the first NAIA coaches poll. The Raiders begin the year with a 7-1 record. College of Idaho is ready to compete as they jump into conference with a 2-6 record.

Lewis-Clark State College vs. Northwest University
Lewis-Clark State has the only conference win under its belt as it hosts its second home match of the season. The Warriors currently hold a 2-4 overall record. Northwest University’s Kelsey Moore is already making milestones with one dig shy of the CCC record (54 digs in a single match). The Eagles are soaring into the season with a 3-2 record.

Bushnell University vs. Multnomah University
Bushnell makes its home debut after opening the year 2-2 on the road. Multnomah is looking for its first win in the Lion's first match of the season.

The Evergreen State College vs. Walla Walla University
Evergreen (0-4) and Walla Walla (0-1 CCC) are both battling for its first win of the year.
