CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Corban University Men's Golf team concluded a two-day head-to-head dual match with RV Bushnell University, where the Warriors took home the top three overall placements thanks to some of the best golf play head coach Charlie Marshall has witnessed during his tenure in the navy and gold clad uniforms.

"What an unbelievable two-day tournament our men just completed," Marshall shared. "They have been putting in the work these past few weeks and it has paid off. And this is just the beginning to what should be a 'take notice of' season ahead for our program."

When asked to speak on the highlights of the tournament for the men's side, Marshall stated, "Shane was playing lights out followed by a host of other Warriors that have us all excited to enter conference play this coming week. We had nine of eleven guys shoot 79 or under today, that's incredible!"

The Warriors and Beacons decided to utilize this friendly dual as an opportunity to see what their student-athletes can do in a tournament-like setting, with the top five finishers more than likely qualifying as the team's starting lineups of sorts. Therefore, the two schools decided not to keep team scores and instead see how each individual performs on their own.

Corban utilized this to their advantage, with their top overall golfer from the 2022-23 school year and two of the newest additions to the program showing up in style over a Bushnell men's program that was receiving votes in the most recent NAIA Men's Golf Coaches' Top 25 poll. Sophomore Shane Jacobus stole the show with an impressive round of 65 yesterday before putting a cap on his stellar week by shooting a 70 today to take home the individual title at 135 over two rounds.

Teammate and transfer senior Jackson Bragg was not far off Jacobus' tail, even to the point of shooting better than the Chino Hills native this afternoon. Bragg tallied a 73 yesterday before dropping a 68 today to take home second overall with a 141 final score. Freshman David Harvey was next in line for recently added Warriors to rise to the occasion, as he shot back-to-back days of 73 and 72 to tie for third overall with Bushnell's Ben Lovrod.

The next four placements were overrun with Beacons before finding the next Warrior in junior Max McDonough, who improved his second day by five strokes to end in ninth of a field of over twenty golfers. His older brother, redshirt senior Calvin McDonough, finished three strokes behind at 156 with sophomore Brock Nelson nestled between their scores at 155 overall. Sophomore Andy Austen tied Calvin with a 156 of his own after bouncing back with a 75 this afternoon.

Freshman Owen Heath, sophomore Brayden Sparkman, and redshirt junior Andrew Classen were the next to follow with 158, 159, and 160 finishes, respectively. Finally, freshman Benjamin Winans shaved eleven strokes off his day one score to jump back into reach of the full group and into contention.

The first Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament of the school year is the next even on the radar of the Corban men's golf team, which will take place on September 11th and 12th at the Running Y Ranch Resort in Klamath Falls, Oregon and be represented by the Oregon Tech Fall Invite.
