CORVALLIS, Ore. – The following eight CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the Rize Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during competition from Jan. 15 – 21, 2024.
Men’s Basketball – Player
No. 24- ranked Oregon Tech’s Kam Osborn was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Osborn, a junior guard from Vancouver, Wash., was dominant for the Owls in a weekend sweep over Bushnell University (112-98) and Corban University (94-84). He scored 25 points the first game and reached a career-high of 27 points in the second. Howard ended the weekend with a 60 field-goal percentage, 46.7 from the 3-point range, and made all nine of his free throws. He added six rebounds, five steals and two assists in 66 total minutes played.
Women’s Basketball – Player
No. 7-ranked Lewis-Clark State College’s Callie Stevens was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second straight time and third total this season.
Stevens, a senior guard from Puyallup, Wash., had another outstanding weekend and led LC State to two more road victories. In the Warriors' first win over Warner Pacific University (95-73), she passed her career-high reaching a monster 38 total points. She then recorded 14 points in the next defeat against Multnomah (97-66). On the weekend, Stevens added eight assists, four rebounds, and four steals while making 10-of-21 points from the 3-point range. She shot 61.3 percent from the field in 64 total minutes played.
Men's Wrestling – Wrestler
No. 3-ranked Menlo College’s A Kanaipono Tapia was named the Rize Laboratory Men's Wrestler of the Week.
Tapia, a 157lbs sophomore from Halawa, Hawaii, is ranked 4th individually and went undefeated this weekend at the Missouri Valley Invitational. The first day he recorded three victories by technical falls. Next, he defeated three nationally ranked competitors in a row, including an 11-4 decision upset in his final bout over No. 2 David Rubio of (RV) Corban University for a 157-champion finish. His efforts helped lead the Oaks to a 4th place team finish.
Women's Wrestling – Wrestler
No. 5-ranked Southern Oregon University’s Emma Baertlein was named the Rize Laboratory Women's Wrestler of the Week.
Baertlein, a sophomore from Oregon City, Ore., sits at 109lbs and is ranked 4th individually. She was dominant on Sunday with two victories over ranked opponents. Her first win was against No. 16 Angie Dill of No. 9-ranked Vanguard University. Then, she bested Ivy Threatful who is ranked No. 7 in NCAA Dll. Both her victories were by technical falls for a combined weekend score of 22-2, helping lead the Raiders to two dual wins.
Men’s Indoor Track & Field – Track Athlete
Eastern Oregon University’s Osman Osman was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Osman, a junior sprinter from Boise, Idaho, broke the EOU program record in his first performance as a Mountie this weekend at the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open. He finished 4th in the 400m with a time of 48.23 for an “A” standard against multiple NCAA Dl opponents.
Men’s Indoor Track & Field – Field Athlete
Lewis-Clark State College’s Trenton Johnson was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Johnson, a sophomore jumper from Nampa, Idaho, set a new LC State record in the triple jump this weekend at the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open. He hit a “B” qualifying mark with a distance of 14.32m for a 3rd place finish.
Women’s Indoor Track & Field – Track Athlete
Lewis-Clark State College’s Madigan Kelly was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Kelly, a junior runner from Lewiston, Idaho, clocked a time of 8.49 in the 60m hurdles to make the third-fastest time in the NAIA this season. She ran a time of 8.57 in the prelims before crossing the line as the top collegiate finisher at the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open. The time secured her an “A” standard and bested her previous LCSC record.
Women’s Indoor Track & Field – Field Athlete
Lewis-Clark State College’s Sydnie Zywina was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Zywina, a junior jumper from Orofino, Idaho, dominated her events this weekend at the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open. She set the Warrior record in her first attempt at the long jump with a “B” standard mark of 5.52m for a 3rd place finish. She then tied her school record in the triple jump at 11.64m to finish 4th, which ranks sixth in the NAIA this season.
