CORVALLIS, Ore. – After fantastic showings on the mat, the No. 3 Menlo College Men’s Wrestling team was named the Under Armour Team of the Week for Jan. 1 – 7 2024, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.
This weekend at the NWCA National Duals, Menlo came in third, defeating three ranked teams (No. 20 Oklahoma City University, No. 7 Campbellsville University, and No. 4 Southeastern University), only falling to the number one team in the nation, Grand View University.
The Oaks were highlighted by an undefeated weekend from No. 4-ranked Rysan Leong at 165lbs. He did not give up a point in his first match against his OCU competitor. He then completed an 8-2 upset over No. 2-ranked Shadrick Slone of CU. On Saturday, Leong won his first bout and was ahead 2-0 after an escape point in the second period and a point for riding time against GVU’s No. 6-ranked Justin McCunn. He then completed the weekend with a 7-2 decision over his Southeastern opponent.
Jeramiah Steele (133), Michael Torres (141), Kanaipono Tapia (157), Ledger Petracek (174), Maximus Zamora (174), Isaiah Morales (184), Michael Rhea (197), Hunter James (197), and Antonio Dacosta (285) all contributed with victories for the Oaks as well.
Up Next, Menlo will travel to Oregon next weekend, taking on No. 19 Southern Oregon University and No. 9 Embry-Riddle in a tri-dual.
