CORVALLIS, Ore. – The following four CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the Rize Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during competition from Jan. 1 – 7, 2024.
Men’s Basketball – Player
Corban University’s Jay Wilson was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Wilson, a junior forward from Denton Texas, was unstoppable in the paint this weekend for the Warriors in back-to-back victories over Northwest University (97-88) and The Evergreen State College (92-65). Against Northwest, he scored a game-high 26 points with nine rebounds. The next day he recorded his first career double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds over Evergreen. Wilson ended the weekend with a 66.7 shooting percentage while making half of his free throws and adding a steal in 49 total minutes played.
Women’s Basketball – Player
No. 7-ranked Lewis-Clark State College’s Ellie Sander was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Sander, a junior guard from Spokane, Wash., dominated the court in two more wins for LC State over the weekend. In the Warriors' victory over Eastern Oregon University (86-73), she scored a career-high 28 points with a staggering 12-for-14 (.857) performance from the field while adding five assists and four rebounds. She recorded 11 points in the win against College of Idaho (61-42) with three rebounds, three assists and three steals. On the weekend, Sanders shot 80 percent from the field and 75 percent from the 3-point range in 60 total minutes played.
Men's Wrestling – Wrestler
No. 3-ranked Menlo College’s Rysan Leong was named the Rize Laboratory Men's Wrestler of the Week.
Leong, a 165lbs senior from Kailua, Hawaii, is ranked 4th individually and had a huge weekend for the Oaks, leading to an impressive outing at the NWCA National Duals. He did not give up a point in two of his matches and his final three victories were against nationally ranked opponents. Leong helped the Oaks place third after facing all nationally ranked teams.
Women's Wrestling – Wrestler
No. 2-ranked Menlo College’s Kalila Shrive was named the Rize Laboratory Women's Wrestler of the Week.
Shrive, a freshman from Tracy, Calif., sits at 170lbs and is ranked 3rd individually. This weekend she took over the mat, going undefeated at the NWCA National Duals against four nationally ranked opponents. Two of her victories were by pin and she did not allow a point in her other two matches. Shrive helped the Oaks place second after facing all nationally ranked teams.
