Warrior Men’s Cross Country Places Eighth, Babcock Competes as Individual for Women at Charles Bowles Invite

SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University Men’s & Women’s Cross Country teams participated in the 49th annual Charles Bowles Invitational earlier today, hosted by NCAA DIII Willamette University, where the Warriors placed eighth overall on the men’s side out of 25 teams, while true freshman Carrie Babcock was the sole Corban student-athlete to compete for the women.

Our 1-3 guys today did great today,” explained Corban assistant coach Stuart Eagon. “Forrest missed eight days of running and Ben Mason missed ten days, both due to pneumonia. We probably lost a little over 80 points in the team score, considering both Ben and Forrest were 15 seconds ahead of Braydon, our #3 today, at the first meet. Forrest and Ben will be in a much better position at the conference meet and at nationals if they continue to stay healthy. In fact, I think our 3-5 spread should be pretty good, and working together, come championship season.”

As a men’s team now back in full force, the Warriors placed eighth overall with a pair of top 25 finishers, ranking third among the NAIA teams present and only trailed No. 4-ranked College of Idaho and No. 10-ranked Eastern Oregon University. The Yotes would secure both the team and individual titles as Daniel Butler was named the meet champion for C of I.

Sophomore Jack Gladfelter was individual leader for the Navy and Gold today at Bush Park, as he finished within the top 10 runners once again in seventh place and clocked a new personal best 8K time of 23:59.8 to break sub-24 minutes. Teammate and junior Zander Moha added another top 25 finish with his 24:53.6 to snag the 23rd overall spot on the leaderboard.

The top five Warriors to finish today’s race were rounded out by sophomore Braydon Lee (25:25.8), senior Forrest Cooley (25:59.7), and freshman Bennet Mason (27:09.5) who finished in 54th, 89th, and 164th, respectively.

“Our whole women’s team was sick with the exception of Carrie, and she did a great job for us today,” continued Coach Eagon. “We’ve had very substantial sickness amongst the team that has unfortunately cost us a lot of training on both the men’s and the women’s side as we progress through the fall season.”

Babcock was the lone women’s representative from Corban to participate in today’s 49th annual race, finishing in 100th overall with a final time of 19:34 flat in the women’s 5K race.

Two weeks from today, the Warriors will run in their final regular season race of the 2024 fall season in Independence, Oregon, as NCAA DIII Linfield University will host the George Oja Linfield Invitational at the Oak Knoll Golf Course on October 19th.
