Mountaineers Compete at Grandview Open, Knudtson Takes 4th Place

DES MOINES, Iowa — Eastern Oregon men's wrestling competed in the highly competitive Grand View Open over the weekend, highlighted by Kyle Knudtson's fourth-place finish in the 184-pound weight class.

Knudtson navigated a challenging bracket, beginning with a 6-3 decision victory over Liam Swanson of Providence (Mont.). He followed up with a decisive fall against Malakai Owens of Wayland Baptist (Texas) in just 2:05. After a hard-fought 11-7 quarterfinal loss to Caleb Helgeson of Iowa State, Knudtson rebounded with a dominant performance in the consolation rounds. He secured a fall over Isaiah Twait of Corban University in 3:41, a technical fall (15-0) over Will Parker of Truett McConnell (Ga.), and a lightning-fast pin of Bryce Milster from Oklahoma City in just 16 seconds. Knudtson concluded his day with a no contest against Damon Ashworth (Central Missouri) in the third-place match, earning a commendable fourth place and scoring 18.0 team points.

Jack Eylar (125), Kai Carson (133), Cole Cross (141), Jaxon Morlan (149), Aj Rockwell (157), Michael Fox (165), Kyle Knudtson (184), Eric Karas (197), and Darrian Hoobery (285) all competed for the Mounties on the day, each unable to secure a placement but winning multiple matches throughout the event.

Eastern Oregon will return to Quinn Coliseum on Friday, November 22nd when they duel Evergreen State and Montana State-Northern beginning at 4:00 p.m.
