Robledo Finishes Fourth at Spokane Open

Spokane, Wash. — Eastern Oregon University faced tough competition at the Spokane Open on Sunday, finishing the day with several hard-fought matches and a standout performance from Stone Robledo, who secured a fourth-place finish in the 197-pound bracket.

Match results:
  • 125 lbs: Cael Floerchinger, over Jack Eylar was unable to overcome SV 17-3.
  • 141 lbs: Wesley Murch fell via technical fall, losing 16-0 to Asher Kemppainen from Providence (Mont.).
  • 149 lbs: Jonathan Tanguma (University of Washington), over Kobe Olsen Dec. 11-8 
  • 157 lbs: Trace Evans TF (17-1) over Andrew Schafer (University of Idaho). However, he was later pinned by Hunter Hobbs (Providence) at 2:03 in the second round.
  • 165 lbs: John Rudebaugh lost a tight sudden victory decision, 6-3, to Hugh Wheeler (Simon Fraser, unattached).
  • 174 lbs: 174 -Quentin Honrbeak over William Anderson (NIC) Fall 3:17// E. Contreras over Honrbeak Fall 4:55
  • 174 lbs: - Russell Noah over Jacob Freeman (Unattached) Fall 3:48// B Mares over R. Noah Fall 2:54
  • 197 lbs: Stone Robledo was the highlight of the day for EOU. After earning a bye, Robledo pinned J. Baekkelund in just 1:13 and followed with a commanding 15-4 major decision over C. Gooley. Despite losing K. Christensen in the semifinal via an 11-1 major decision, Robledo's strong showing secured him a fourth-place finish.
  • Heavyweight: Justin Sawai earned a first-round bye but was edged out in a close 4-2 decision by W. Willsey.
The Mounties return to the mat on December 7 in Clackamas, Oregon, where they will compete in a dual against Clackamas Community College at 6 p.m., followed by participation in the Clackamas Open on December 8.
