CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Southern Oregon University Women’s Basketball team was named the Under Armour Team of the Week for October 28 – November 3, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.
In the NAIA Women’s Basketball preseason poll, Southern Oregon received a No. 10 rank. This weekend on the road, the Raiders defeated No. 5-ranked Concordia University (Neb.) and No. 6-ranked Dakota State University (S.D.).
SOU forced 22 turnovers resulting in 24 points which helped lead to the thrilling 70-68 defeat over Dakota State. Meghan McIntyre put up 14 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and four steals for Southern Oregon. Morgan Baird also put up 14 points, including the crucial game winning basket in the final 42 seconds for the Raiders.
The next day, Southern Oregon achieved its second upset of the weekend with a 71-68 victory against Concordia. Emma Schmerbach shot 9-of-19 from the field, recorded a career-high 24 points, and added six rebounds, three steals, and two blocks to help lead the Raiders.
SOU, which plays its first 11 games of the season on the road, is in Klamath Falls, Ore., next week to face Cal Maritime on Friday and UC Merced on Saturday at the Lithia-Oregon Tech Classic.
