Warriors Endure Comeback Bid by NCAA Pioneers

SALEM, Ore. – A double-digit lead late in the second half of today's matchup for the Corban University Women's Basketball was nearly lost in a comeback bid by NCAA DIII Lewis & Clark College at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center, yet the Warriors were able to buckle down on their own defensive end of Tim Hills Court to earn a 69-64 victory and kick their four-game losing streak to the curb.

"I am incredibly proud of the team to be able to complete today's game as we finish up our non-conference schedule," detailed Corban head coach Kylie Frizell. "I'm excited as we move forward into conference play as we continue to build little by little!"

A 25-point first quarter while holding the Pioneers (1-6) to just seven points ultimately allowed the Warriors (2-4) to escape with their second win of the season in their final non-conference matchup of 2024-25. Lewis & Clark would eventually outscore Corban in three of the four quarters played, yet their incredible first period on both ends of the floor was enough to secure the Thanksgiving weekend home win.

After establishing a 20-point lead in the third quarter, the Navy and Gold began making unforced errors in both turnovers and shot selections, as their team field goal percentage dwindled over the final 15 minutes of regulation and committed over half of their turnovers for the afternoon in the same time period. However, creating such a lengthy lead over the first and third quarters allowed the Warriors to make a key defensive stop in the final minute of play when Pios' guard Madelyn Sanchez missed a mid-range jumper after utilizing a majority of their shot clock. Due to the low number of fouls committed by Lewis & Clark in the fourth, Corban was able to waste more than enough clock before one was finally committed, with just one second remaining. The Warriors inbounded the ball and walked off the court with their second home win in three attempts.

For the third-straight contest, senior guard Alyssa Wyllie hopped off the bench and scored a team-high 15 points on 5-for-8 shooting, dishing out four assists along the way. Redshirt sophomore guard Jenna Albrecht nearly clinched a double-double with 11 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore guard Lizzy Bennett pitched in 12 points, five boards, and four assists, with a pair of blocks and steals defensively. Senior forward Madison Hodnett hauled in the game-high mark in rebounds this afternoon with 11, a season-best for the Nampa, Idaho native.

The six-man bench for the visiting Pioneers was led by Sanchez and her game-high 21 points, converting on five of her 11 attempts from beyond the three-point arc to keep the visiting team in contention. Fellow guard Kaitlin Carns added 12 points with eight rebounds, while forward Divinity Singleton scored 12 points and hauled in four boards. Carns dealt out four assists to tie the game-best mark, while guard Lauryn Frederickson brought down a team-high ten rebounds.

The Warriors' six-game homestand continues into next weekend, as they'll kick off Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) action on Friday, December 6th against Warner Pacific University at 5:30pm.
