Cascade Connects: Women’s Basketball Preview

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The 2024-25 Cascade Collegiate Conference Women’s Basketball season tips off into full action this weekend.
 
All 12 teams will battle for the regular-season championship and the CCC’s first automatic qualifier (AQ) to the NAIA National Tournament. The second AQ will be awarded to the winner of the CCC Women’s Basketball Tournament, presented by U.S. Bank., starting on Feb. 26.

Southern Oregon University was chosen to defend its crown in the CCC Preseason Poll. Last year, they were named the CCC regular season champions and earned the tournament title. The team is currently ranked No. 4 in the latest NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. Southern Oregon completed its non-conference slate with an undefeated 6-0 record, including opening its season with two big victories against ranked opponents. SOU currently leads the league in 3-point percentage (.387) and holds the largest scoring margin (+27.3). The Raiders hit the road to face College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon University this weekend for the long awaited conference opener. Last season, they defeated both teams all four times.
 
Lewis-Clark State College is ranked on the national poll at No. 14 and came in third in the conference preseason poll. LC State has a 6-0 record, including a huge 73-44 upset over Carroll College and its first conference win of the season over Walla Walla University. LC State currently leads the conference in field goal percentage (.484) and in defensive scoring (53.7 Avg/G) along with blocked shots (5.2 Avg/G), assists (21.2 Avg/G), and steals (14.2 Avg/G). The Warriors will head to face Northwest University and The Evergreen State College this weekend to continue its conference campaign. Last season, they defeated both teams all four times.
 
Oregon Tech has a 4-2 record prior to the tip off of the CCC season. They were picked second in the CCC preseason poll and received votes in the latest NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. OIT currently leads the CCC in rebounding margin (+11.3) along with offensive (18.8 Avg/G) and defensive (30.7 Avg/G) rebounds. The Owls are set for exciting matchups this weekend against College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon University.
 
Eastern Oregon University enters conference play with an impressive 4-1 record, defeating competitive ranked opponents and NCAA Division lll competition. EOU currently leads the league in free throw percentage (.824). The Mounties will begin their regular season this weekend hosting Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon University.
 
Multnomah defeated Warner Pacific University in the first conference game of the season by a final score of 73-51. Multnomah holds a 3-4 record and recorded big wins against NCAA Division lll opponents, including Lewis & Clark College (68-47) and Willamette University (80-71). Nomah star Jersey Huerta is currently leading the CCC in scoring, averaging 16.9 points a game. The Lions continue its conference season this weekend, heading to face Bushnell University and Corban University. Last season, they lost all four in the series matchups.
 
Warner Pacific University enters the 2024-25 CCC season with a 3-2 record with victories over NCAA Division lll opponents. The team is currently ranked third in the CCC in scoring defense (57.6 Avg/G), field goal percentage (.408), along with offensive (12.0 Avg/G) and defensive (27.6 Avg/G) rebounds. The Knights continue its conference season this weekend, heading to face Bushnell University and Corban University. Last season, they split both series matchups.
 
Walla Walla University is currently managing a 3-4 record. Walla Walla’s competitive schedule included several NCAA Division lll opponents including a 80-66 win over Lewis & Clark College. WWU star Chariah Daniels currently leads the CCC in rebounds (11.6 Avg/G). The Wolves continue its conference campaign this weekend on the road to face The Evergreen State College and Northwest University.
 
College of Idaho completed its non-conference slate with a 2-3 record, competing against highly ranked opponents including No. 6-ranked University of Providence and No. 21-ranked Carroll College. C of I is ranked second in the conference in free throw percentage (.750). After falling to both teams the past two seasons, the Yotes are looking to tip off the conference season with wins against Southern Oregon University and Oregon Tech.
 
Corban University started the season with a 2-4 record with a competitive schedule facing several NCAA opponents. Corban currently ranks second in the conference in 3-point percentage (.331). The Warriors will host its first conference games of the season this weekend against Warner Pacific University and Multnomah.
 
Bushnell University heads into CCC action with one 81-74 victory over Hope Internal University. Bushnell had an intense opening schedule, facing several nationally ranked opponents while Ayden Krupke holds the leagues third ranked scoring percentage, averaging 14.6 points per game. The Beacons tip off their conference season hosting Multnomah and Warner Pacific University.
 
Northwest University started the season with a 1-5 record. The Eagles hit the road to begin the CCC season against Lewis-Clark State College and Walla Walla University.
 
The Evergreen State College is searching for its first win as the Geoducks tip off conference action against Walla Walla University and Lewis-Clark State College.
