Rize Laboratory Players of the Week Announced

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The following twelve CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the Rize Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during competition from Feb. 5 – 11, 2024. 

Men’s Basketball – Player
Bushnell University’s Kaden Sand was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Sand, a senior guard from Baker, Ore., helped lead the Beacons to its first ever defeat over (RV) Lewis-Clark State College (83-74) and to a season-high victory against Walla Walla University (115-76). He shot an impressive 75.9 percent from the field and 50 percent from the three-point range. Across both games he totaled 14 rebounds, nine assists, three blocks, and three steals on top of 49 points in 61 minutes played. 

Women’s Basketball – Player
No. 24-ranked Southern Oregon University’s Meghan McIntyre was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

McIntyre, a junior guard from Huntington Beach, Calif., led the Raiders to its 10th straight win with three more victories over No. 22-ranked Oregon Tech (75-68), Northwest University (70-40), and The Evergreen State College (74-43). She recorded season-highs of 29 points In Tuesday’s upset over Oregon Tech and eight assists in Friday's defeat against Northwest. Over the weekend she shot 44.7 percent from the field, 43.8 percent from behind the arc, and made 14-of-15 free throws for a sum of 55 total points. She added 21 assists, 13 rebounds, and five steals across 89 minutes played. 

Men's Wrestling – Wrestler
No. 4-ranked University of Providence’s Abel Nava Jr. was named the Rize Laboratory Men's Wrestler of the Week.

Nava, a 174lbs sophomore from Toppenish, Wash., is ranked 6th individually and had an outstanding match this week. In Providence’s Thursday dual against No. 20-ranked Montana State University-Northern, he upset No. 2 NaKoda Siegel. The 1-0 decision marked his 10th consecutive victory, helping lead the Argos to a 39-0 defeat over the Lights. 

Women's Wrestling – Wrestler
No. 12-ranked Vanguard University’s Lily Avalos was named the Rize Laboratory Women's Wrestler of the Week.

Avalos, a freshman from Delhi, Calif., sits at 130lbs, is ranked 9th individually, and went undefeated this weekend at the Cerritos dual and open. She completed three pins and two unscathed technical falls to earn the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler award. On top of receiving tournament gold, her efforts helped lead the Lions to its second ever program dual victory. 

Men’s Indoor Track & Field – Track Athlete
Lewis-Clark State College’s Carter Gordon was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
 
Gordon, a junior runner from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, recorded two “A” standards at the Whitworth Invite this weekend. With a time of 1:52.72 in the 800m, he came in 3rd against 44 total athletes to rank 7th in the NAIA this season. He then helped finish 1st in the 4x800m relay with a time of 7:47.11 for a second-best program record. 

Men’s Indoor Track & Field – Field Athlete
Lewis-Clark State College’s Christian Bothwell was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.
 
Bothwell, a senior multi-event athlete from Hailey, Idaho, had a record-setting performance in the Heptathlon at the Whitworth Invite this weekend. He racked up a total of 4,793 points to finish 2nd out of 17 total competitors for an “A” Standard which ranks 6th in the NAIA this season. He reached personal bests in the 60m dash (7.48), high jump (1.86m) and 60m hurdles (8.86). 

Women’s Indoor Track & Field – Track Athlete
Lewis-Clark State College’s Geraldin Correa was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
 
Correa, a senior runner from Kennewick, Wash., ran the fastest 800m race in the NAIA this season at the Whitworth Invite. She finished 2nd out of 42 athletes with a “A” Standard time of 2:12.84 to shatter the program record.
 
Women’s Indoor Track & Field – Field Athlete
Lewis-Clark State College’s Jennah Carpenter was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.
 
Carpenter, a junior jumper from Lewiston, Idaho, continued to improve her marks at the Whitworth Invite. She finished 2nd in the high jump with a distance of 1.70m to record an “A” standard and rank 5th in the NAIA this season. She also finished 2nd in the long jump with a personal record of 5.42m. 

Baseball – Player
University of British Columbia’s Trent Lenihan was named the Rize Laboratory Baseball Player of the Week.
 
Lenihan, a junior infielder from White Rock, B.C., was a dominant force for the T-Birds over the weekend. He recorded 13 hits for a .650 batting average and a 1.100 slugging percentage. Across UBC’s four games he tallied seven runs, six RBIs, three doubles, and two home runs while touching 22 total bases. Defensively, he was perfect in the field with 35 putouts and two assists. 

Baseball – Pitcher
College of Idaho’s Nick Eliason was named the Rize Laboratory Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

Eliason, a junior from Billings, Mont., had a tremendous appearance on the mound for the Yotes. He threw seven shutout innings in one of C of I’s four game sweep over Westcliff University (6-2). He only allowed one hit and struck out four batters to lower his ERA to 0.90. 

Softball – Player
Oregon Tech’s Kaila Mick was named the Rize Laboratory Softball Player of the Week.
 
Mick, a graduate student shortstop from Klamath Falls, Ore., led the Owls to a 4-2 week in Arizona. She recorded 10 hits, three for extra bases, for an outstanding .476 batting average and a .667 slugging percentage. She added seven RBIs, five runs, and three stolen bases without striking out. She topped off her stellar week defensively with nine putouts and 14 assists on top of two double plays.
 
Softball – Pitcher
Southern Oregon University’s Katie Machado was named the Rize Laboratory Softball Pitcher of the Week.

Machado, a senior from Petaluma, Calif., led the Raiders to a 5-2 victory over NCAA Dll Western Oregon University on Saturday. She threw the complete game, only allowing one earned run and a walk while striking out six batters to record a 1.00 ERA.
