ASHLAND – Corban, Southern Oregon and Bushnell were victorious as the new-look Cascade Conference beach volleyball circuit debuted with all five teams in action during the first of two days at the Raider Beach Courts on Friday afternoon.
Corban, ranked No. 4 in the NAIA coaches’ poll and favored to win the CCC, opened competition with a 4-1 win over Bushnell – getting an especially dominant performance from its top pair, Megan Dennis and Emma Bischoff, which won 21-11 and 21-8 against Halle Neumann and Kate Palelek.
Southern Oregon only dropped one match in its win against first-year program College of Idaho and improved to 2-0 overall. Bushnell then bounced back with a 4-1 victory against Northwest (Wash.). The Beacons’ No. 4 pair, Laci Jespersen and Sydney Myhre, won both of its matches on the day in straight sets.
“SOU is so thrilled to host the first CCC beach volleyball event,” Raiders coach Paul Elliott said. “Having all the schools at one site is so fun and the camaraderie is special.”
Action continues Saturday as SOU plays Northwest at 10 a.m., Corban and College of Idaho match up at noon, Bushnell and SOU meet at 2 p.m., and College of Idaho and Northwest cap the weekend at 4 p.m.
