Rize Laboratory Players of the Week Announced

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The following twelve CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the Rize Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during competition from March 4 – 10, 2024. 

Beach Volleyball – Pair
Bushnell University’s Brooke Silvernail and Anessa Stotts were named the Rize Laboratory Beach Volleyball Pair of the Week.

The senior and junior duo picked up their first pair win of the season against NCAA D1 opponents (21-18, 11-21, 15-11). 

Baseball – Player
Oregon Tech’s Matthew Ortiz was named the Rize Laboratory Baseball Player of the Week.
 
Ortiz, a junior infielder from Garden Grove, Calif., had an outstanding weekend on the diamond, leading the Owls to a five win week. He had 12 hits, five for extra bases, to record a .462 batting average and a .731 slugging percentage. Across the week he tallied 11 RBIs, nine runs, and knocked out a home run while drawing two walks and stealing six bases. Defensively, he managed a .947 fielding percentage. 

Baseball – Pitcher
University of British Columbia’s Sean Heppner was named the Rize Laboratory Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

Heppner, a junior from Points Roberts, Wash., set a new CCC record with 16 strikeouts in an 11-5 Thunderbirds victory over College of Idaho. He picked up his first win of the season, allowing just one hit and run to hold a 1.42 ERA. 

Softball – Player
No. 14-ranked Eastern Oregon University’s Katelynn Evans was named the Rize Laboratory Softball Player of the Week.
 
Evans, a junior outfielder from Newberg, Ore., led the Mounties to a series sweep over Corban University. She recorded nine hits in 12 at bats for an outstanding .750 batting average and 1.000 slugging percentage. She added nine RBIs and six runs while drawing two walks and stealing four bases. 

Softball – Pitcher
No. 14-ranked Eastern Oregon University’s Kaylie Hoskins was named the Rize Laboratory Softball Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season.

Hoskins, a junior from Lake Stevens, Wash., stayed throwing the heat for the Mounties. On Friday, she pitched a complete game no-hitter against Corban University. On Saturday she threw a five-inning shutout victory over the Warriors, only allowing one hit. Across the weekend she tallied 20 strikeouts to help hold a perfect ERA. 

Men’s Golf – Golfer
Lewis-Clark State College’s Bryden Brown was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Golfer of the Week.

Brown (74-71 – 145), a sophomore from Moscow, Idaho, earned his first collegiate win over the weekend at the Puget Sound Invite. He shot a round of 71 before winning in a playoff to secure the individual title.

Women’s Golf – Golfer
University of British Columbia’s Bo Brown was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Golfer of the Week.

Brown (71-73-72 – 216), a junior from Mississauga, Ontario, was the only golfer to score even par at the RMC Intercollegiate. Her three-round total of 216 earned the individual win while leading the Thunderbirds to the team title, which they won by 36 strokes. 

Men’s Outdoor Track & Field – Track Athlete
Southern Oregon University’s Mason Weisgerber was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
 
Weisgerber, a freshman runner from Wilsonville, Ore., showed out in his first collegiate meet. He won the 1,500m with a time of 4:00.19 against 50 other athletes. He placed 7th out of 29 in the 800m with a time of 2:01.95

Men’s Outdoor Track & Field – Field Athlete
Southern Oregon University’s Andrew Mitchell was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.

Mitchell, a senior from San Diego, Calif., logged the top javelin mark in the NAIA and broke the Southern Oregon school record by 8 feet at 221-7 in his first outing of the season, topping his old PR by 8-7. He also placed 3rd of 43 in the discus at 151-3, putting him on top of the CCC performance list.

Women’s Outdoor Track & Field – Track Athlete
Southern Oregon University’s Cammeo Ramirez was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
 
Ramirez, a junior runner from Medford, Ore., won the 1,500m with a time of 4:49.34 and was the 800m runner-up with a time of 2:27.13 in her first meet as a Raider.

Women’s Outdoor Track & Field – Field Athlete
Northwest University’s Halsie Keltner was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.
 
Keltner, a junior from Anacortes, Wash., threw the javelin a distance of 36.16m for a 2nd place finish, reaching the CCC qualifying mark.
