CHULA VISTA, Calif. - The inaugural season for The College of Idaho beach volleyball continued at the NAIA West Group Tournament with pool play on Thursday. The Yotes were engaged in two tightly-contested pairs against No. 10 Saint Katherine and No. 2 Corban.
The day saw College of Idaho drop a 5-0 decision to the Firebirds of Saint Katherine. There were a pair of tightly-contested matchups as the No. 2 pair of Emily Vandenberg/Liza Montalbo lost in three sets, 20-22, 21-11, 15-10. Another matchup that went three sets was at the No. 4 pair. The Yotes duo of Greta Valaika/Althea Sandoval loss by a narrow margin of 21-16, 17-21, 19-17.
The day concluded with the fourth matchup of the season against fellow Cascade Collegiate Conference team, No. 2 Corban. The Warriors came away with a 4-1 win with a win by the No. 1 pair of Haley McUne and Sydney Dews after an injury to the duo from Corban. The No. 3 pair of Brianna Arfmann and Lauren Gauna went to three sets with Emmi Marks and Kiley Power pulling away with a 21-13, 18-21, 15-7 win.
Pool play will conclude on Friday at noon (MT)/11 a.m. (PST) against Benedictine Mesa.
