EUGENE, Ore. – The Bushnell University beach volleyball team honored their five seniors on Thursday evening, ahead of their Cascade Collegiate Conference match against Southern Oregon University. The Raiders pulled out a 5-0 victory in the contest.
Southern Oregon (8-2 overall, 7-2 CCC), currently receiving votes in the NAIA national coaches poll and resting just outside the top-ten, swept four out of five duals, with the Beacons' No. 1 pair of Halle Neumann and Kate Palelek taking the first set of their contest before falling in three sets, 21-23, 21-18, 15-9.
Early SOU wins for No. 2 pair Grace Gulbrandsen and Kira Sandoval and No. 4 pair Annie Hite and Skyy Botelho set the pace, and the Raiders clinched the match with their third win at the No. 3 pair courtesy of Lucretia Benolken and Kendal Hadwick.
The Beacons (5-14, 3-6) having already clinched one of the Cascade Conference's four spots in the upcoming NAIA West Regional, will have a challenge on their hands this weekend as they wrap up the regular season with their eight on moving up from fourth place. Bushnell will take on The College of Idaho (2:00 pm) and Corban (4:00 pm) on Friday, during the Beacon-hosted day of CCC competition. Then on Saturday they will face SOU one more time in Salem at the Corban Beach Courts.
